MECCA -- George "Shorty" Hodge, 76, of Mecca, died at 5:55 p.m. Wednesday in Vermillion County Hospital at Clinton. Mr. Hodge was a retired operating engineer and a former musician. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Mission at Montezuma. He was born in Mississippi Dec. 19, 1899, a son of Hugh and Annie Hodge. Surviving are his wife, Anna M.; a son, Joseph of Montezuma; a foster son, Thomas Diehl of Indianapolis; a foster daughter, Mrs. Alice Gattie of Terre Haute; a brother, James of Mecca; a sister, Mrs. Ardena Rush of Kingman; and three grandchildren. Requiem Mass will be sung at 11 a.m. Saturday in Immaculate Conception Mission. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call at Butler Funeral Home at Rockville after 4 p.m. Friday.
